Lyne Semi Final Donoughmore Sunday the 2nd of July 2006Imokilly 0-9 Duhallow 0-11
Bitter disappointment for our under 15 footballers in Donoughmore last Sunday
as we went to Duhallow on a glorious Sunday morning. This was one of the best
games of football seen all year. The Imokilly boys were bitterly disappointed
to lose out at the end of a cliffhanger.
In the first half Duhallow were quick out of the blocks registering a couple
of points before our boys found their feet. Points from Diarmuid Ring and
James O’Mahony had us level by the end of the first quarter. Further
points from Ring, Gavin Daly and Nathan Cashman equalled three from Duhallow.
A great point from Kevin Lane left us one point in front at half time.
A tense, exciting second half saw us exchange a couple of points with Duhallow.
Then they went up a point before we got what we thought was the breakthrough.
A good ball from Gavin Daly to James O’Mahony saw James make a great
run through to score a great goal only for the ref to call him back and give
us a 13 metre free. End to end stuff then to the end with nothing between
the teams. Two points from Diarmuid Ring, along with one from James O’Mahony
left us at nine a piece with two minutes on the clock. However, it was not
our day and Duhallow raised two more white flags to leave them two points
to the good at full time.
This was a very good performance by our boys – we just didn’t
get the rub of the green on the day. There were many fine performances on
the day, Alan Frahill O’Connor had a great game initially at midfield
and later at centre back. Diarmuid Ring was very effective as was James O’Mahony.
Kevin Lane did well. Darren Tobin and Gavin Daly worked tirelessly for the
hour as did Nathan Cashman and Thomas Mullaney. Damien McAuliffe was always
dependable in goals while Aaron Kenny was solid outside. Our half back line
had a tough hour but all three gave their all. In my opinion our two corner
backs Kevin Rohan and Michael Cronin were outstanding on the day – definitely
my ‘men of the match’. Andrew Power played very well when introduced.
We can hold our heads high and look forward to next year.
I cant leave our under 15 footballers without congratulating each and every
one of them for their effort and commitment over the last two months. I also
have to thank Richie Cahill, our coach for the excellent job he has done with
these players. I must also complement Dave Carroll and Dave Kilgallon for
their commitment to this team not only this year but also last year.
