Mon 1st May Imokilly 3-11 Avondhu 1-7
Imokilly win 3 in a row
Our u15 hurlers done us proud with this find display, to defeat Avondhu in
the final of the Dick Barrett shield.
Avondhu started the better with a pointed free with in a minute as Imokilly
found it hard to find their feet. Slowly but surely we started to get on top
with outstanding displays from Anthony Cronin at half back. Indeed he opened
the scoring with a mighty point
Points followed from Alan Busteed and Daniel Moynihan before Cronin again
popped up this time with a major. Now Imokilly turned the screw with our half
backline the rock on which our victory was built. Joe Cashman at centre back
was outstanding indeed Aidan O’Sullivan was not far behind. An Eoin
O’Sullivan free followed by a long range free from Moynihan but Imokilly
ahead 1-4 to 0-1 as the 1st quarter finished. Now it was the turn of the Avondhu
boy’s three unanswered points and they were back into the game. Imokilly
were not to score again until the 32nd minute when Moynihan converted another
long range free to settle the opening in Imokilly’s favour 1-6 to 0-4
with Imokilly to face the wind.
With in 4 minutes of the restart Moynihan and O’Sullivan (Eoin) pointed
before Avondhu replied. With Moynihan playing out of his skin Imokilly had
one hand on the shield. Then as we entered the last quarter Eoin Healy goaled
to put the game beyond Avondhu
Two more points followed from Thomas Crowley now operating at corner forward
then Avondhu hit back with a goal. A long range shot from Cashman was doubled
to the net by Busteed and when Robert Smart pointed it was all over bar the
shouting. To be fair to Avondhu they never gave up and added 2 more minors
to leave Imokilly winners on the scoreline of 3-11 to 1-7
For the record Imokilly have won this championship 8 out of the last 9 years
losing out in 2003 to Seandun .

Imokilly 2-13 Seandun 0-6
IMOKILY ONLY A HOUR AWAY FROM ANOTHER THREE IN A ROW
A mighty display from Cusacks greyhounds
Imokilly came out of the traps with all guns blazing and when Eoin O’Sullivan
pointed within a minute we were away. Little did we think that Sullivan would
point 10 frees from 11 strikes with his only miss coming late in the game.
After 12 minutes Imokilly lead by 0-4 to 0-1 three from O’Sullivan and
a long range free from Daniel Moynihan.
Seandun now had their best spell but some mighty defending from Jack Sheehan
and Aidan O’Sullivan outside him held the city boys at bay. Two mighty
points from Paul Haughney with Another two frees from O’Sullivan stretched
Imokilly’s lead. Back came the city lads with three unanswered minors.
Again O’Sullivan had the last say to leave the half time score 0-9 to
0-4
With Joe Cashman ruling the roost at centre back Imokilly started the second half as they finished the first. An other free from O’Sullivan and then came the turning point the ever improving Eoin Healy won a great ball off loaded to Alan Busteed who passed to Robert Smart who found Haughney who found the net to put the game beyond the city lads. Three minutes later Haughney plucked a ball from the sky and rifled the net for his second (this was the score of the night). O’Sullivan had three more scores to leave Imokilly 2-13 to 0-6 winners.
Imokilly’s backline was super with Alan Cott, Pat O’Brien and
Anthony Cronin ably backing the afore mentioned Sheehan, Cashman and Sullivan
(Aidan)
While up front Healy, Haughney and Sullivan stood out.
in the last nine years Imokilly have only lost one Dick Barrett that was in
2003 when the city side lowered our colours
